First match v West Ham

by Pete

My Dad started taking me to the odd reserve match, where he said I was more interested in collecting the paper tea cups off the floor than watching the match. Anyway, as I turned nine, I was taken to a first team match. I must have been ready by then, as I can remember the day as clear as yesterday. It was a sunny February day and we won 4-0 with Alex Young one of the scorers. We stood in the Goodison Rd Paddock just under the main stand at the church end. I remember my Dad telling me that we had just beaten the world cup winners, as the Hammers had Hurst, Peters and the immaculate Moore in their side. Great memories of my first steps into an Everton love affair.
