Dixie Dean wearing Everton F.C. kit, 1931
Mikel Arteta wearing Everton F.C. kit, 2005

In this Compare & Contrast exhibition you can find out how and why football kits have changed over the past 100 years.

Please note, although everyone can enjoy this exhibition, it is aimed at school teachers and their pupils and includes suggestions for how it can be used in the classroom.

Football kits can tell us a lot about the time in which they were made. They give us clues the fashions of the time and the materials that were available to make them. Here you can see photographs of two famous Everton football players. Dixie Dean played in the 1920s and 1930s. Mikel Arteta started playing for Everton in 2005. As a class discuss how the football kits they are wearing are the same and how are they different. Here are some ideas that you might want to think about.

What materials do you think the kits are made out of?
