On 17 March 1909 Everton's Secretary read a letter from Frederick Wall, Secretary of the English F.A., to the committee. Wall invited Everton to select a team to play a series of matches in Argentina and Uruguay. The tour was to last 9 weeks including 3 weeks of travelling and 20 days in South America. First class travel and hotel expenses would be paid for two directors and the team.
