Suddenly in June 1926 it seemed as if Dean's career might be over after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Wales. For 36 hours he was unconscious. Dean had a fractured skull and broken jaw. Dr. James Baxter, Everton's club doctor, didn't think he would play football again. Amazingly, Dean returned only 15 weeks later in a reserve game at Huddersfield Town in October.
