1888 [Meeting of Committee held in the Sandon
July 30 Hotel on Monday Evening]
John Houlding Esq. in the chair.
Present Messrs Wilson, Berry, W Marriott, Ramsey, Jackson, Fleming, Howarth,
J C Brooks, T Marriott, Stockton.
The minutes of the last meeting were read & confirmed.
Mr N J Ross (Preston Nth End club) made his appearance before
the committee & notified them that P N E Club had agreed
to give him his release, & that he was quite prepared to play
for Everton as a professional. The chairman requested Ross
to withdraw for a while, & during his absence the Committee
discussed the question of his engagement, & unanimously agreed
to his being engaged at a salary of ten pounds per month.
Ross was then called before the Committee & agreed to these terms.
The Asst Secy was instructed to proceed next morning to
Preston & pay over to the N E Club seventeen pounds ten
shillings (£17.10.0) being the amount received by Ross from
that club since 2nd June.
