Report on Mr. Collinge, the official in charge of our game
v West Brom. at Goodison Park. 2nd November 1957.
I think that it is the opinion of all of us who
were present at Goodison Park on Saturday that this official
was entirely incompetent to discharge his duties.
Whilst, to a large extent, there is little we can
do about it, the following facts might help to confirm the
above view.
(1) Several of the West Brom. players addressed the referee
by his Christian name.
COMMITTED AN OFFENCE
(2) On the few occasions when our players retaliated, they
were warned that they would be sent from the field of
play, whereas the initial/many offences committed by West Brom.
never received such a rebuke.
(3) There was a distinct lack of co-operation with his
linesmen. On one occasion in the second half the
linesmen on the far side was waving for offside for
some considerable time without the refree being
aware of it.
(4) His reluctance to permit our trainer to go on to the
field of play to treat our injured players and his
insistence that the injured players be removed from
the field immediately the trainer arrived.
A PLAYER ONE OF OUR PLAYERS
(5) When Howe, the West Brom. full back STRUCK Brian Harris
on the jaw and knocked him out the refree did not even
speak to the offender.
