This football is from Everton's first Europa League match in the 2009-10 season.  Everton beat 
AEK Athens 4-0 at Goodison on 17 September 2009 with goals from Yobo, Distin, Pienaar and Jo.

The Europa League is run by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).  UEFA was founded on 15 June 1954 in Basel, Switzerland.  Today it is made up of 53 European national football associations.  


Everton won the UEFA Cup in the 1984-85 season.  Howard Kendall's side conceded only 2 goals in 9 matches.  In the final Everton beat Rapid Vienna 3-1 at the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam to take the UEFA European Winners Cup. 


The 2009-10 season is the first in the Europa League Competition which has replaced the UEFA Cup Competition.  Everton qualified for the Europa League by finishing 5th in the Premier League in May 2009.


In December 2009 Everton went through from the Group I Stage in which they were drawn against AEK Athens, Benefica and Bate Borisov. 


In the Round of 32 Stage of the League Everton play Sporting Lisbon in Portgual on 16 February with a return match on 25 February at Goodison.
