What happened in Everton's history this week?

22 March 1969 -
Everton defeated 1-0 by Manchester City in FA Cup Semi-Final at Villa Park. Everton lost the Final the previous season and were desperate to make amends in 1969, having seen off Ipswich, Coventry, Bristol City and Manchester United in the earlier rounds. But Joe Royle was unable to better his goalscoring exploits of previous rounds, with Everton losing to a Neil Young goal. Read the Semi Final match programme here.

23 March 1985 - Andy Gray and Graeme Sharp score 2 against Arsenal at Goodison. This 2-0 win set Everton up for a run of nine consecutive League victories, creating a new record of ten consecutive League wins in a single season. Read the Arsenal programme here.

24 March 1939 - Alex 'Sandy' Brown is born in Glasgow. Sandy began his career with Partick Thistle and was bought by Everton for £38,000 in September 1963. He went on to make 200 appearances for the club, winning a League Championship medal in 1970. See all Sandy Brown memorabilia here.

25 March 1950 - Everton defeated 2-0 by Liverpool in FA Cup Semi Final at Maine Road. Everton created countless chances but were unable to convert any. Liverpool on the other hand took advantage of the few chances they had, scoring through Bob Paisley and Billy Liddell. Read the match programme here.

25 March 1984 - Everton and Liverpool draw 0-0 in Milk Cup Final. The 1984 Milk Cup Final was the first major cup final involving both Merseyside clubs. Ticket demand far outweighed supply with the city of Liverpool descending on London for the day. Far from a classic final, the behaviour of fans was praised by the police. 27 March 1963 - Gary Stevens is born in Barrow. Signed by Everton as a schoolboy, Stevens became an integral part of the side that lifted the FA Cup in 1984 and League and European Cup-Winners' Cup the following year. He added a second League title in 1987 before joining Glasgow Rangers for £1 million in 1988. A full England international he won 46 caps for his country. See all Gary Stevens memorabilia here.

28 March 1925 - Dixie Dean scores his first Everton goal. In only his second match for the club, Dean scored his first goal against Aston Villa in a 2-0 win at Goodison. He went on to score another 348 League goals for Everton. Read the Villa match programme here.
