2 July 1998 - Walter Smith announced as Everton manager. Many thought Smith, the former Glasgow Rangers manager, was destined to take over at Sheffield Wednesday. Smith had spoken to Wednesday and had agreed in principle to take over. However he also spoke to Everton, who, unlike Wednesday, would allow Smith to bring in Archie Knox as his assistant. This proved to seal the deal and Smith was announced as the new Everton manager. See Walter Smith memorabilia.

3 July 1956 - Alan Sanders moves to Everton. Sanders had worked his way up the youth ranks at Manchester City but had yet to make a first team appearance at Maine Road before moving to Goodison Park. His debut came in November 1956 and he went on to make 63 appearances for the club before moving to Swansea in 1959. Alan Sanders memorabilia.

4 July 1983 - Trevor Steven moves from Burnley to Everton for £300,000 after passing medical examination.
