Bernard O'Keeffe played for Everton 'B' and 'C' teams between 1956 and 1958. Over 50 years later Bernard and his son Bernie recently visted the Record Office to view all the match programmes that featured his youth team appearances.

Bernard left school at the age of 15 and played for Bolton youth. A Liverpool lad, Bernard quickly became homesick at Bolton so returned to Liverpool to play for Everton youth. Bernard played two seasons for Everton alongside players such as Brian Labone and Eddie Cavanagh (of 1966 Cup Final fame!). One of his many memories whilst at Goodison was of everyone being sent home from the Park End training pitch after the tragic Munich disaster in 1958. Bernard also played for Lancashire Schoolboys.

Whilst reading the old match programmes Bernard commented,

"I did have some of the programmes but let them go, which was absolutely stupid... to see these here is fantastic and makes me very nostalgic".

Did you play for an Everton youth team or perhaps know of someone who did? If the programmes aren't shown on our website, you can view them, like Bernard, at Liverpool Record Office.
