Daniel Kirkwood - Player and Director

Daniel Kirkwood was an Evertonian for almost 40 years from 1889-1928.

Recently one of Kirkwood's family kindly donated memorabilia to the Everton Collection which reveals more about Daniel's professional and personal life.

Kirkwood was a Scottish player from Linlithgow, West Lothian.  He joined Everton after being spotted by a director on scouting trip to Scotland in 1889.   Kirkwood played for Everton as a wing forward from 1889-92 and went on to become a director and Chairman of Everton F.C.

Our first exhibition traces his playing career with the Club when he helped Everton to achieve some classic victories.  It also shows what life was like for a footballer in the late Victorian period. Click here to see 'Daniel Kirkwood: The Player Years'.

Our second exhibition traces Kirkwood's career as a Club director and scout. Responsible for the club's first gym (in 1903) and for signing Alec Troup, Kirkwood proved a loyal Evertonian for almost 40 years. Click here to see 'Daniel Kirkwood: The Director Years'.
